How to Rename Brushes and Brush Sets in Procreate

Once you start collecting or creating brushes and brush sets in Procreate, things can get disorganized really quickly. Knowing how to rename them can be a huge help in taking control over your Procreate canvas.

To rename a brush in Procreate, open the brush settings and navigate to the “About this brush” section. Tap on the name of the brush to edit it. To rename a brush set, tap on the name of the brush set to open the settings. Choose “Rename.” Procreate’s default brushes and brush sets can’t be renamed.

How to Rename Procreate Brushes

To rename Procreate brushes, tap on the brush you want to rename to open its settings. Navigate to the “About this brush” section. Tap on the name of the brush at the top until the keyboard pops up. Type the new name of your brush and tap “Done.” Procreate’s default brushes cannot be renamed.

It’s important to restate that Procreate’s default brushes CANNOT be renamed. If you go through these steps and you’re not able to rename your brush, check and see if it’s one of Procreate’s default brushes.

You can identify Procreate’s default brushes by tapping on the brush to open its settings, clicking on the “About this brush” section and looking for the “Made by Procreate” stamp.

Once you’ve confirmed that the brush you want to rename can, indeed, be renamed, here are the steps to take:

1. Open your brush library and find the brush you want to rename

Scroll through your brush library, admire all of your beautiful brushes, and land on the brush you want to rename.

2. Tap on your brush to open its settings

If your brush isn’t already selected, tap on it once to select it. Then, tap on it again to open its settings.

3. Tap on the “About this brush” section

Scroll down through the menu options on the left-hand side of your screen. At the bottom, you’ll see the “About this brush” section. Tap on it.

4. Tap on the name of the brush to open the keyboard

The name of the brush will be at the top of your screen once you navigate to the “About this brush” section. Tap on it to open the keyboard.

5. Rename your brush and tap the “Done” button

Use the keyboard to delete the old name of your Procreate brush and type a new one. When you’re finished, tap the “Done” button in the top corner of your screen or on the keyboard.

Remember this won’t work if you’re trying to rename one of Procreate’s default brushes.

How to Rename Procreate Brush Sets

To rename Procreate brush sets, tap on the name of the brush set you want to rename to open its settings. Tap on the “Rename” button and type in the new name of your brush set. Tap the “Return” button on your keyboard when you’re done. Procreate’s default brush sets cannot be renamed.

As with the brushes, Procreate’s default brush sets CANNOT be renamed. You’ll know if it’s a default brush set because it will have a unique icon next to it. Any imported brush sets have the Procreate flourish next to it, while the default brush sets have unique icons.

You can also identify any default Procreate brush sets by looking at its settings. You’ll notice that there is no “Rename” option within the settings.
