Having a good set of sketching brushes is so important for creating art with Procreate. If you don’t have the tools to lay down a great sketch, it could make it difficult to end up with the beautiful final result you’re looking for.
Personally, I can’t imagine my Procreate life without my favorite sketching brushes. Whenever I’m staring at a blank canvas, the first thing I do is grab one of my favorite sketching brushes.
So, if you’re looking for more sketching brushes to add to your list, you’re in the right place. We’re diving into my list of the best Procreate brushes for sketching that you can add to your collection.
1. Fat Pencil
There’s nothing better than big, fat pencils that you can make big, rough sketches with. We’ll there’s one thing that’s better…having big, fat pencils that are absolutely free!
This set of brushes is free and contains a lot of the fundamental sketching brushes that you’ll want in your Procreate brush collection.
I made the entire piece of art below with the Fat Pencil. As you can see, I adore this brush and use it a lot.
When you need loose and sketchy lines, the Fat Pencil will get the job done beautifully. What I love about this pencil is its size. It isn’t so thin that it requires a lot of layers and precise lines, but it also isn’t so thick as to wash out all of the smaller details you want to make.
It’s a good balance.
Whenever I need to lay down a sketch, the Fat Pencil is the first brush I grab.
Here’s what’s included in this free brush set:
- Chalk Brush
- Fat Pencil
- Leaky Fountain
- Clean Pencil
- Large Rough Pencil
- Large Pencil
- Rough Pencil Line
- Rough Small Sharp Pencil
- Pencil Smooth
- Pencil Blackwing
To keep my brushes organized, I merged these sketching brushes with Procreate’s default sketching brushes and deleted the empty brush set.
Since this brush set is free, it’s definitely neat to check out.
